Top Google searches for 2011

What did we spend time looking up on the internet in 2011?  The most popular Google search trends for last year are published with some surprises. Strangely, ‘What is scampi?’ came second to the most Googled question, with ‘What is AV?’ at the top of the list. The Royal Wedding rose to first place for the ‘fastest rising’ search term with Apple’s iPhone 5 coming in second place. Interestingly, on the ‘how to’ list the Brits are big ‘studiers’ with the question ‘how to revise’ coming in first place. The English, not known for their open sexuality, googled ‘how to snog,’ which came in at second place. This could be due to a large amount of teens searching in the sexual exploration, but hey, who knows? Google said: “As usual, search is helping people satisfy their appetite for celebrity pictures and salacious gossip – and this year is no different, with Kim Kardashian and Rebecca Black coming to the fore and Ricky Gervais the only man gatecrashing the female-dominated top 10 celebs list.” Interest in gadgets also came high on the fastest rising list with Groupon and iPad 2 high up, people also searched ‘cookies’, one would assume the computer related ones and there was a keen interest in industry information on illegal downloads. Brits may not be good at snogging, or perhaps they are now having Googled it, but they are diligent at studying and looking into staying legal when it comes to downloads. Very civilized.
