Zynga, financially troubled leader of the mobile and social gaming industry, is looking to expand upon its existing titles to strengthen its position and produce the next big hit.
‘Words with Friends’ was a runaway success, with prominent celebrities raving about the addictive game, Zynga couldn’t have been happier with the product.
Hoping to generate the same results as before they’re planning a wider range of ‘with Friends’ games, the first of which will be ‘Gems with Friends’. These titles will work by the same formula of keeping games based around existing networks of friends.
This might be the big thing that pulls Zynga back from the brink, but with enormous expenditures buying out studios who owned popular titles it might be the right strategy just far too late.
The meteoric growth of Zynga earned it praise from tech companies across the globe but this may have been their own undoing. Their stock has been crashing because hype led to an overestimation of their true value, and since then they’ve faced an uphill battle towards recovery.
