Flipboard, the popular magazine iPad app has launched a new advertising technique, displaying adverts while flicking through the content much like a magazine, when using the app. The Flipboard app has had great success since launching 2 years ago with more than 2.5 million downloads. The free app collects links your friends have posted on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr and displays them in a magazine form. Users, flip through by using the iPad touch screen. The app’s new advertising campaign means that readers will see full page adverts for The New Yorker, Wired and The Telegraph for example, with which Flipboard are now partnered. Each magazine and newspaper is responsible for selling their own advertising space via the app and when users tap on the ad they are directed to the brand’s website or Facebook page for more information. This is the old form of print advertising making its way into the new media and is already having great success.
